Since the coronavirus outbreak, I have not been able to travel overseas, and my style has become to go somewhere in Japan for a few days every now and then when things calm down. The information in guidebooks about Japan’s regional foods has deteriorated, and the most helpful sources are YouTuber’s gourmet reports.
Of course, it depends on the Youtuber, but when you watch it, there are good reports that make you want to try it.
This time, I will write about the delicious meals I had when I went to Sendai.
1. Shinoki
This izakaya is famous for its half-raw fried horse mackerel.
It’s a popular restaurant with many other delicious dishes, so it’s definitely a good idea to make a reservation.
I went there just after 5:00 pm and luckily there was an empty table, so I just went in.
Order from the lineup below.

It started out fresh and delicious.
2nd item, potato salad
The chewy texture of the potato feels new to me, and it’s a surprising snack, but it’s also delicious!
3rd items, half-raw fried horse mackerel
The half-cooked horse mackerel that melts in your mouth is different from the usual fried horse mackerel, making this an outstanding dish.
4th item, Fried corn
Although the corn part of the corn is removed from the cob, the corn itself is cooked as a whole, not in pieces. I don’t know if they put the knife in at the last minute, but I enjoyed the texture and it was delicious.
5th items Fried lotus root and paste
I enjoyed the gentle seasoning and the texture of the fine lotus roots.
Overall, the food was well-cooked and enjoyable to eat. It was a time when I couldn’t drink alcohol due to the coronavirus pandemic, but I think it’s a dish that goes very well with alcohol. The drinks are delicious and look great!

2. Gyutan Zenjiro
Sendai is so famous for its beef tongue cuisine that it can be difficult for me to know which restaurants are good.
However, there was no point in eating beef tongue at a beef tongue restaurant in Tokyo or other places, so I wanted to go to a restaurant that only operates in Sendai.
I went to this store based on a YouTube video, but I watch the video that a person living in Sendai went to the restaurant before he moved, so I choose and went there.
When I went before the restaurant opened, but there was already a line that stretched all the way up the stairs at the back of the restaurant.
There were people with their families, and it seemed like locals were coming as well.
The turnover was surprisingly quick and I was able to enter the restaurant without having to wait for a while.
In advance research, there were many reviews favoring “Shinchu-tan”, although the price is a bit high.
After some hesitation, I decided to order the “Shinchu-tan and Zenjiro set meal” since I couldn’t come to Sendai very often.

The first thing I took was the boiled tongue.
Yeah, it’s delicious. The umami oozes out from the beef tongue and it’s soaking wet. The soup with the umami flavor is also delicious.
Main appearance
The rice was heavy, but the beef tongue, meatballs, and yam were all so delicious that I couldn’t stop eating. Soup is good.
The thickness of Shinchu-tan! The perfect pasteurization makes it soft and chewy, so delicious!
The sausage was also delicious, but I thought it was hard to convey the beef tongue flavor. “Shibchu-tan” is definitely the name. You must eat “Shinchu-tan”!
“Shinchu-tan” was incredibly satisfying! ! “Shinchu-tan” was the justice!
3 Umai Sushikan
After the beef tongue, we decided to go for fish, so we headed to a sushi restaurant.
I actually wanted to eat a self-serve seafood bowl at Shiogama Port (Fish market) where you could choose your own toppings, but they closed early on holidays, so I couldn’t make it in time.
If you want to go to the market at Shiogama Port, it might be better to go in the morning.
So as revenge, I went to Umai Sushikan, a 5-minute walk from Sendai Station.
It was a little hard to find, but it was inside the arcade.
This sushi restaurant seems to have many different types of sushi, including a huge conger eel.
There are taiyaki and affogato in the menu.
I ordered Tokujo-nigiri（Special nigiri）
Yes, beautiful! And delicious!
Sendai is close to the fishing port, so you can eat fresh seafood, and I thought there was definitely a sushi restaurant.
Summary
Sendai has a variety of delicious foods, so it’s a city you can really enjoy.
It’s about 2 hours by Shinkansen from Tokyo, so I thought I’d like to come back someday and eat some delicious food.
